First Week in NYC, Holla!

I don't really remember exactly what day of the week we moved in on, but I know that I had one week to get a job before we had to fly back to Steamboat for a wedding. Molly started work on the first Monday in the city so I had a little time to myself to wonder around the neighborhood.

Very early on I knew that I was in over my head. This place was crazy back then. My first subway ride by myself I was sure that I would end up in Brooklyn or in The Bronx, two places that I knew that I didn't want to be.

For the first few days I stuck to above ground transportation, mainly my feet. I walked everywhere. It was, and is, the only way to see the city. I looked for all the important things that we needed, hardware stores, grocery stores, drug stores, liquor stores and Pubs. I found them all within five blocks of our house. It felt like moving right into the center of a shopping mall, people walking everywhere.

There also was the traffic to adjust to, that constant hum you hear. At first I thought I was going crazy, but no, there is a high pitched hum all the time, and it almost drove me crazy that first week. I've finally found a spot in Central Park that there is no noise, and it's very nice. One spot that I can actually sit and not hear sirens, or horns, or dogs. It's so nice.

Anyways these pictures are from my first few days wondering. I was very worried about getting lost, so I always carried a map with me, just in case. If fact I still do, if I'm going outside of the Upper East Side.

This picture is from my front steps looking north to the project building and our nice parking lot. If I had a car it would be parked there, oh and cost me $400 a month. The Explorer will never live in the city.

Somewhere in the park. By the way, they have a lot of benches to sit on in the park, very nice.

This is at about 95th or so looking up towards our block. That huge apartment building there is on the coroner of our block. They are very expensive places to live, most likely two or three times the price of our place.

This is Park Ave. looking north. They just built a little park in the middle of traffic here on our block, and it's actually quite nice, except for the taxis blasting their horns and the MTA metro north trains booming out of the underground tunnels. But you get used to that amazingly enough.

This is our tavern, Kinsale, the one with the Irish flags over it. The place is sweet, nice people, full pints and they will put on any sporting event you want. Its my new Tap House, I highly recommend it. In fact, anyone who ever visits us gets to make a trip there with Molly and I.
