Oh Tannenbaum and Tales of Christmas

(Molly Post)

This year, I wasted no time putting up our first Christmas Tree. I have been saving ornaments since I was 3 years old for this day (yes, I realize how crazy that sounds). Over half of the ornaments were from a little shop in Saugatuck, MI, where my family went every summer when I was growing up. The remaining ornaments were mixed: a few from my parents tree that I loved as a child, a few from my travels studying abroad in Europe, one from Disney World (of course), etc. It took me a whole day while home for Thanksgiving to narrow down my hundreds (yes, hundreds) of ornaments and pick out 15. We planned on getting a small 4ft tree, so 15 was the maximum number of ornaments I was allow to bring back to NYC with me.
As soon as I got off the plane from St. Louis for Thanksgiving, Cody and I were off to Ace Hardware to find a tree. Yes, we could have gotten a real one, there definitely wasn't a shortage of people selling them on the streets of New York, but we figured a live tree in our apartment for over a month would have been a fire hazard. So, after speaking with a salesman, we picked out our 4ft tree (or so we thought). When we got home and assembled the tree, it was more like 6ft! It was narrow, but much taller than we expected or wanted. And I definitely had not brought enough ornaments with me for this larger tree! But we made it work.

Yes, that is a Guinness Bottle as a star on our tree. I hadn't brought back a star (since I thought we were getting a tiny tree), so I grabbed Cody's empty beer and stuck it on top. It really made it "our" tree.

Unfortunately, for the actual holiday, Cody had to work, but I went home to St. Louis to be with my family for a few days. Below are some pictures from my time at home (I swear I saw my family, even though all the pictures are of my puppy).

This is Lily, my puppy (well, technically she's my dad's, but whenever I'm home, she follows me around everywhere and she becomes my puppy too!). I took about 50 pictures of her while I was home, these are just some of my favorites. Look how cute she is playing with her toy (Christmas present from me, I might add). You can't really tell from this picture, but she uses her paws like hands to grab and chew at her toys better - it's adorable!!

Uh oh! The toy got away from her! Isn't she cute!?

Yes, I'm obsessed with a dog, but can you blame me?
